Met all expectations

After laying my hands on the new 30 Wt Laney Supergroup (BL30) recently (in addition to my long standing 60 Wt Ironheart, JVM205 and Orange Dark Terror), it was crystal clear that there is no way I can play it as it intends at ear-friendly volumes (I live in an apartment building). Besides, availability of master volumes on the IRT and JVM apparently was not a salvation, because I could still never get even close to tones and the blissful roar of doom to which I was used to after playing for a few years in our 40 sq.m. isolated practice room in 2012-15. So after some research I faced a straightforward choice between the Ironman II and the Reload II. Despite a (not really very sensible) difference in price, the Reload took over primarily due to the FX loop and constant attenuation. Plus a bonus of many other features that I will hardly ever use , but who knows. The Reload fully met and exceeded my expectations (at least at this moment as an attenuator only). The Depth and Presence knobs do their job, the Mojo button indeed does add some oomph to the otherwise flattish home-level sound (2X12 Laney cab loaded with V30s, will also try it on my 4X12 1960 Lead Marshall cab). The Supergroup can now be played with the Gain knob past 6-7, delivering very decent Sabbath roar. The Ironheart finally roared too, after many years of master volume confinement, with both the master and preamp volumes cranked well past 12. Have not tested it yet with the JVM and the Orange, but think I won't be disappointed. Overall - highly recommended.

The sound of my cab, just quieter

I tried all the difefrent attenuators out there, about everuthing. There was a slight difference in sound, and was trying to fix it with ew, etc. This one seems to do the job without changing the sound. I enjoy the product everyday, i heard my 100w plexi how it really sound...

A studio must

I got the Reload 2 as a last choice/resort (mostly because of the price) and because my old Captor was struggling with my 100w amps. There aren’t many load boxes on the market with a 200 rms rating that can safely handle 100-150w amps (which often peak above that). Well, the Reload2 can.
I compared it directly against the Fryette Powerload IR (also 200rms rated) & my old Captor. This was my conclusion:

Positives (better than the other two):

1. Reload 2 can do so many things, its like a swiss army knife!
2. Looks beautiful
3. Easy to use
4. Quiet fan (finally!)
5. Comes with a license for their (awesome) Two Notes plugins/amp sim
6. Tone-shaping capabilities (adjust to your taste)
7. Easy-peasy with high wattage high gain amps

Negatives:
-Pricey
-Big (although fine)
-No onboard IR loading! Whyyyy? Seemslike a no brainer :( This option would’ve made it a complete winner…One star less for this reason.
-Sound wise I felt like it doesn’t replicate my amp’s sound as naturally as my Captor did (weird to admit). Luckily, you can shape the sound with the “depth” and “presence” knobs, so you’ll be happy with the sound in the end. However-i found the Captor sound more “accurate” and “fun”. The Reload 2 can feel a bit “stiff/sterile” in comparison.

Even with the negatives I mentioned, this is still overall an amazing piece of gear, probably the best on the market in its category and Im very happy with it. Zero regrets

Game Changer
MiSustain 16.04.2025
