Sheeran Loopers Looper X

On a random basis , the pedal led switches won't switch on, so the looper does not work! PLESE FIX!
below my review prior to the issue

Caveat to this message: I am not a professional looping artist nor professional guitar player.

I am an intermediate level enthusiast that enjoys looping and gears as a way to practice creativity in music given lack of time to play in a band.

With that said, I am the owner of a Boss RC 600 and just purchased the Sheeran Looper X.

Here’s a few first impressions compared to RC 600 after playing for a few days with my new loop station:


Benefit #1 - The main benefit in my view is the absolute ease of use at all levels. After seeing this video I was able to loop on the get go and use features I had never used on RC 600. Extremely intuitive. The base workflow is very easy and minimizes timing errors too.

Benefit #2- Ability to route and adjust levels all outputs: IMHO it is absolutely necessary to get loop decent quality. This is something the RC 600 falls short on and requires midi programming and an external unit to send midi messages. Fantastic to route outputs to a mixer and adjust on the fly.


Benefit #3 super high build quality. The pedals are outstanding and extremely solid. The video display is gorgeous and something a modern unit must have. The RC 600 immediately looks like something of the past, despite quite honestly you can do a whole lot with the boss unit at the price of not necessarily being too easy to use, given a limited display with suboptimal menu navigation abilities

The looper X main downside is price. A fair price point should be on the 600-800 € range. I believe their target is professional live looping artists but price will limit adoption. The unit exceeds my abilities and probably not justified given my skills, but others at my same skills level will likely choose not to upgrade.

A second downside is number of tracks: Would Headrush consider programming the unit in a way that more track could be used (ie 6-8)?

The Positives: This is the second Looper I have owned, Sheeran Looper X footswitches are a delight and transitioning between modes and selections feel smooth .
Sound qaulity overall is good, and the looper has a good range of onboard effects. The inputs / outputs allow a good level of configurations that will meet most needs.
The looper is bulky but acceptable due to the offering of the big and very useful touch screen, and comfortable size of footswtiches. The build quality appear to be good and solid.

The Negatives: Personally I find bending down to access menus a pain (in the back). The unit heavy and lifting onto a work surface to set and then lowering to floor for use is a chore and disappointment.
When I consider the tech that has gone into this unit I feel a trick has been missed. Why.......
I also own a Line 6 Helix where the HX Edit software will allow me to access and change all settings from a computer screen without ever needing to bend down or lift the unit from the floor - this interface is excellent. Certainly a mod worth considering from the Headrush Team.
Other than this it's early doors, this looper will probably do more than it says on the tin and I've barely opened the lid.
Would I buy it again: YES certainly, and hope to have many years of use and fun out of it.

Das Positive vorweg: Die Verarbeitung und Bedienung mit dem großen Display ist definitiv klasse! Dieses Gerät ist in 2024 angekommen und bietet eine intuitive Menüführung mit Touch-Display. Die großen Pedale sind optisch ansprechend und schwer zu verfehlen, die Bedienung an sich ist super.
Aber wie das in vielen Bereichen des Lebens so ist, bringt einem das schönste Äußere nichts, wenn der Inhalt nicht passt.

Nennt mich eingefahren, aber bei einem Looper für über 1.300€ erwarte ich das Komplett-Paket! Diese Loop-Station kostet fast 3x (!!!) soviel wie die Boss RC-600 und bietet nicht ansatzweise so viele Möglichkeiten an Customizing-Optionen und Features. Eines der Top-Features am Boss-Modell ist zum Beispiel der All Start/Stop Button oder die Möglichkeit bei Druck auf "Stop" den Loop noch bis zu seinem Ende laufen zu lassen, was beim Sheeran Looper nicht gegeben ist. Des Weiteren lassen sich bei Boss auch sämtliche Schalter und Knöpfe individuell einer Auswahl an verschiedensten Funktionen zuweisen, womit man das Gerät komplett individualisieren und an seinen eigenen Workflow anpassen kann, auch das versucht man beim Sheeran-Modell teils vergeblich.

Der Sheeran Looper X ist keinesfalls eine schlechte Loop-Station, wer mit dem Loopen anfangen möchte, findet hier schon ein benutzerfreundliches & übersichtliches Gerät. Ich sehe aber keinen Grund den dreifachen Preis für ein Gerät auszugeben, dessen einziger Vorteil gegenüber der Konkurrenz ein großer Bildschirm ist. Es scheint, als würde man hier sehr viel Geld für den Namen oder die Optik bezahlen, für den Inhalt ist der Preis nämlich nicht gerechtfertigt.

Der Titel verrät schon einiges. Die X ist eine fantastische Loopstation. Gebaut für die Bühne, und das merkt man. Die Ganze Loopstation ist mit gut 7kg ordentlich schwer. Die Verarbeitung ist super und auch die Pedale sind absolut genial - kein Vergleich zu aktuellen Alternativen.

Ich Loope mittlerweile seit einigen Jahren live, angefangen mit der BOSS RC-30, dann RC-300, dann RC-500 und zuletzt die RC-600.

Im vergleich zu der RC-600 hat die X „nur“ 4 Kanäle, was mich aber nicht weiter stört.

Was aber neben den sehr großen Pedalen direkt ins Auge fällt ist das tolle, große Display. Endlich ist ein großer Looper mal in 2024 angekommen. Durch das Display ist das User Interface sehr übersichtlich und man findet sich schnell zurecht und muss sich nicht durch diverse Seiten in Untermenüs klicken.

Wenn man Boss gewohnt ist, ist der Worklow etwas anders als gewohnt. Auch die Customizing Optionen sind mit der aktuellen Software eher noch begrenzt. Ein paar Kinderkrankheiten hat die X leider ebenfalls noch, aber ich bin zuversichtlich, dass sich das durch kommende Updates behebt.

Unterm Strich wird die Boss mich verlassen und die X dauerhaft einziehen. Allein schon die Bedienung, dass Display und die Menüführung machen die X für mich zur perfekten Loopstation.
