Fine quality windshield

The Dead Kitten serves as a Windshield in any situation when I'm recording outside; I bring it to live events with the recorder being part of my camera rig, as well as when just recording auxilliary sounds or the atmosphere of outside places.

It's also fine for interviews, since - apart from seriously reducing pops and exhale noise - it hides the equipment to some degree, not distracting as much as all the blinking LEDs found on handy recorders and other flashy stuff you could pull this thingy over.
I once lost valuable time where my partner got distracted by a clipping LED triggered by his cough. I highly recommend covering.

Speaking about pros and cons, I love everything about this thing. Only one thing - I removed the "rode" flag thingy on my Dead Kittens to improve visual homogenity (less distraction) and avoid a harsher noisy sound that may appear when accidentially touching it.

Speaking about sound clarity - yes, it removes some little amounts of the higher frequencies, but it is far from sounding dull - to be true, I'd say it even sounds more natural by dampening the overly crisp treble tones digital equipment tends to emphasize.

Get rid of that wind!

I purchased the Røde Deadkitten for use on my Tascam DR-05. As the Deadkitten is a general purpose windshield it can be used for several products. It fits great over the microphones on the DR-05 without covering the display.

I recorded a small concert outdoors a couple of weeks ago, and the wind was quite strong, 10-15 meters per second in the gusts I think. The Deadkitten handled this kind of wind very well. The Deadkitten does not degrade the sound quality either.

I keep the Deadkitten in a small ziplock bag along with the recorder. The ziplock bag makes it possible to press out all the air and the windshield takes up a lot less space, plus you don't get strains of hair everywhere in your bag.

I am very satisfied with this product. I have bunch of other Røde products. They never disappoint.

Is it well made - Yes.
Do I get funny looks when I say I can't find my dead kitten -Yes
