myVolts Step Up Tip 12V Center Pos

The myVolts Step Up Tip 12V Center Pos has become one of the key accessories in my music setup. Thanks to this compact adapter, I’ve finally been able to leave all the bulky power bricks at home.

I often carry my Apollo Twin X in my backpack when doing tracking and got tired of carrying the big bulky power supply.

I already have a 65W PD charger for my MacBook so I figured someone must've already made something like this. Luckily I've found the myVolts Step Up, but nobody tried it with the Apollo Twin X. I've looked on the official site and the original Twin was specified as working so I had hope it will work for the X too. I was a bit scared since the original PSU technically provides more power to it but a lot of times those are over specced.

So I took a chance to see whether it will work or not and luckily it does! I haven't done extensive testing, but my base patch on the Apollo constantly takes 80-90% of the DSP with no issues so most likely my assumption that the original PSU is over specced is correct.

Remember that you need to twist the connector otherwise the Apollo will not power on! (like on the original PSU)

Audio works perfectly and so does recording in Logic, so far no power drops. Will edit this if I notice any issues.

Endlich gibt es eine Auswahl von MyVolts auch bei Thomann. Das erspart die unbequemen Eigenimporte von den britischen Inseln. So oder so, die Gadgets von MyVolts sind es wert – der StepUp hier ist keine Ausnahme

Wer genau wissen will, was das kleine Dingens von MyVolts so schafft:

Ich betreibe damit ein Modularsystem im (hier bei Thomann erhältlichen) Erica Synths Travel Case 2x104 HP mit ab Werk verbauter Stromversorgung und folgendem Energie-Appetit: 1600 mA +12V | 366 mA -12V | 2 mA 5V. Das Beispiel-Setup ist auf Modulargrid unter meinem hier verwendeten Nicknamen zu finden.

Das andere Ende des PD-USB 3.1-Kabels steckt in einem 4er USB-C-Steckernetzteil mit nominellen 100 Watt von Ugreen, an dem noch zwei weitere Abnehmer hängen, ebenfalls mittels MyVolts StepUp (ein kleines Modular-„Beiboot“ und die Bassline von Erica.

Das Ganze funktioniert ohne Probleme, der Klumpen an Netzteilen ist weg und vor allem: Es eliminiert (bei mir jedenfalls) die Brummschleife. Letzteres ist doch vermutlich eher dem USB-Netzteil zu verdanken, aber sei’s drum, ohne die MyVolts-Stecker wäre das Ganze so nicht möglich.

Zwei der drei MyVolts StepUp habe ich schon seit Monaten im Heimstudio-Einsatz: neben dem 12V innen (+) noch einen 9V innen (-) für das in dem Sinne exotische H9 von Eventide. Nach der Erfahrung holte ich mir noch zwei weitere StepUps dazu.

Meine Konklusion: auch für zu Hause schon empfehlenswert. Unterwegs erst recht!

Nun kommt das Meckern auf hohem Niveau, mithin kleine Kritikpunkte:

-1: Leute, warum ist das Ding ausgerechnet rosafarben? Nur Peinlich! :-)
-2: Je nach Buchse wackelt es leicht, wenn eingesteckt.
-3: Es gibt immer noch zu wenige Varianten (und selbst davon hat Thomann noch nicht alle im Programm).
