If you want a versatile guitar for every genre, look elsewhere. But if you want to play loud, heavy, fast rock and metal - and look incredibly cool doing it this is one of the best bangs for your buck on the market right now. It is extremely comfortable to play and looks really sick. Don't forget to buy a 9V battery, because it is not included.

Closest thing to Gibson under €1,000

Waited months to get guitar when it eventually came back into stock. I was worried about the build quality due to hearing horror stories about these guitars arriving damaged, scratched ect but I can safely say mine came in near perfect condition.

The only bad things I can spot on the guitar is a couple of tiny tooling marks on the fretboard which do not impact playability whatsoever and are completely cosmetic. (I didn't notice them until I tried to look for flaws).
Also when the guitar came it had quite high action but only a 2 minute job to fix.

Included gig back is nice and sturdy and I can trust it to take a few knocks.

EMGs are perfect for the Metallica sound and can also produce nice clean tones too.

Would recommend a decent leather strap to reduce neck drop when playing while standing.

I would definitely recommend if you wanted to invest in a guitar that will hold it's quality for years to come.

I've no reason to want a Gibson Explorer anymore.

Epiphone, finally, you did it! Only took you a couple of decades to do it, but you got round to it eventually. I dreamt of this concept since I was 15/16 years old. An all white explorer body with silver hardware, triangle positioned vol/tone controls, 80's model and "yes I am a Metallica fanboy; I needed this" haha. Plus a reasonable price for a very simple and demanded idea.

Leider typisch Epiphone

Hatte leider die typischen Epiphone Qualitätsprobleme.

Hatte zwei Exemplare zum direkten Vergleich hier und bei dem Modell welches ich bei Thomann erwischt habe gab es leider deutliche Qualitätsschwächen.

Der Sattel war viel zu breit für den Hals und dazu noch ziemlich schlecht gefeilt. Da wird es ohne passende Sattelfeilen für einige schon schwierig. Am Übergang Hals-Kopfplatte war die Lackierung sehr ungleichmäßig und wellig, so daß man es mit bloßer Hand noch fühlen konnte wenn man in den ersten beiden Bünden greift. Die Bünde waren an beiden seiten schlecht abgerichtet, die Bundenden standen merklich über und ein Polieren der Bünde wäre auch bitter nötig gewesen. Dazu kommt das trotz aktiver Tonabnehmer keine Batterie enthalten ist (kein Weltuntergang, hat vielleicht Sicherheitsgründe bei internationalem Versand oder so 🤷🏼‍♂️).

Bei dem zweiten Exemplar trat bis auf die nicht polierten Bünde und fehlen der Batterie keiner dieser Mängel auf. Epiphone kann also wenn sie wollen. Stellt euch aber darauf ein selbst noch Hand anlegen zu müssen, die Chancen auf ein gutes Modell scheinen wie bei Epiphone häufig der Fall (zumindest was meine Erfahrung angeht) 50/50 zu sein...
