Yamaha YFH-8310 ZGS 02 Flugelhorn

The Yamaha 8310z flugel is a dream to blow with good intonation and lovely sound, although not with the supplied mouthpiece. I use a wick 4fl.
Valves work really well but need much more lubricating than I'm used to. Build is quite light and you have to be careful not to dent .
The water key rubbers appeared to shrink after just over a year and the main one leaked badly and all of them started dropping out, it looks like they were not glued. However thormann replaced the main one and sent a spring with no quibble of which I am most grateful.
Overall I absolutely love the instrument and it has made playing a pleasure. I would highly recommend them.

Ich spiele seit fast 20 Jahren auf einem Yamaha YFH-631 und das Flügelhorn war immer ein sehr treuer und zuverlässiger Weggefährte und ich war (auch im Vergleich zu anderen ausprobierten Instrumenten) sehr zufrieden mit Klang, Intonation, etc. Nachdem meine Motivation in den letzten Monaten steil nach oben ging, dachte ich mir dass ich ja einmal was Neues ausprobieren könnte. Gesagt, getan und ich habe mir das YFH-8310 ZGS von Thomann zuschicken lassen. Anfänglich war eine wochenlange Lieferzeit angezeigt, Thomann hat es dann zu meiner Freude aber trotzdem geschafft mir das Instrument innerhalb weniger Tage zukommen zu lassen. Beim Auspacken fiel mir gleich auf dass das Instrument ist im Vergleich zu meinem alten YFH-631 ein absolutes Leichtgewicht ist und perfekt in der Hand liegt. Und als dann die ersten Töne gespielt habe, war es um mich geschehen... ;-) Ich hätte mir nie erträumt dass es einen solch großen Unterschied zu meinem alten Instrument gibt, das YHF-8310 ZGS spielt wirklich in einer anderen Liga. Wie bereits in den weiteren Rezensionen beschrieben ist es wirklich eine pure Freude damit zu spielen weil man eine totale Spielfreiheit genießt, von sehr leise (Top-Ansprache!!!) bis sehr lauf (klanglich noch immer perfekt) bei gleichzeitiger Flexibilität im Spiel (super Einrasten bei Intervall-Sprüngen, perfekte Maschinen für schnelle Passagen, sehr guter Trigger, etc.). Alles in allem gehen meiner bescheidenen Meinung nach die Einschränkungen für die Ausdrucksvielfalt des Flügelhorn-Spiels durch dieses Instrument gegen 0, sprich es macht klanglich was ich möchte und vor allem liebe ich es wenn ich die Schwingungen spüre die das Teil erzeugt (was bei Heavy Instrumenten nicht wirklich zu "spüren" ist - vielleicht versteht mich da irgendwer...). Fazit: Ich gebe es nie mehr wieder her!

P.S.: Nein, ich bin weder von Yamaha noch von Thomann gesponsert! ;-) Es ist mir einfach ein Anliegen meine Erfahrung zu teilen, ausprobieren und testen muss es ohnehin jeder selbst. ;-)

I can confidently say that the YFH-8310 ZGS 02 is a top-tier instrument that meets the highest demands in terms of sound, intonation, and overall playability—the tone is exceptionally warm, rich, and colorful, with a true flugelhorn character, yet it still offers excellent projection and clarity within an ensemble; the response is fast and even across the entire range, with a perfectly balanced amount of resistance that allows precise breath control and a strong sense of security in both soft, lyrical playing and more powerful passages; intonation is very stable, and together with the third-valve slide trigger it gives the player full control over fine tuning; the build quality is unmistakably professional, with smooth, quiet valves, excellent ergonomics, and a comfortable feel even during long playing sessions.
