Having played a 4V compensating euphonium for many years, I've got to an age where playing a full size instrument for a long rehearsal can be a struggle. I was looking for a downsize that didn't confine me to using a baritone horn instead. The tornister euphonium models don't appeal to me aesthetically, so having seen the "Little Lion" with its 14.5 mm bore, and 10 inch bell, I decided to take the risk of buying one on trust. It arrived within 5 days, amazingly safely packaged. As soon as I opened it up and examined the "Lion," I was bowled over by its build-quality and the ingenuity of its wrap and overall design. Putting the mouthpiece in and then giving it a test blow, I was amazed by its tone; not quite as big and rounded as a full-size euphonium, but nearer to it than my baritone horn. Even with only three valves, its intonation is really good, even with 1+3 and 1,2+3 combinations. Its tone is beautiful in the upper register, and rock-solid in the lowest notes. I've tried it out in two band practices, and I'm delighted by it, even though I'm still getting used to the new hold and grip! For the the price, this instrument is brilliant. Even the mouthpiece is good!!
