SOMA Lyra-8 Green

The LYRA-8 is not a tool for the impatient, nor is it a machine built to serve the rigid grid of modern pattern-based music ecosystem.

The slightest micro-movement of a dial can shatter a tranquil, glass-like chord, sending the entire sonic ecosystem spiraling into a glorious, weeping vortex of harmonic tension.

Ultimately, you do not "play" the LYRA-8.
You perform a ritual with it. It demands that you unlearn the sterile perfection of modern music creation and embrace the beauty of the flawed, the unpredictable, and the deeply human. It is a masterpiece of expressive design, built entirely for those who wish to swim in the deep, dark, and beautiful waters of pure sonic exploration.

It is not meant to be your first synth, but the one you get when you’re ready to dive deep into the sheer fundamentals of sound. Despite its limitations - such as its lack of ramp waveforms, mono output, and missing low-pass filter - there is nothing else out there quite like it!
A truly unique instrument that breathes life into ambient soundscapes, industrial noise, and evolving drone textures that feel almost alive.

This little synth is very noisy, even when volume completely turned down. They included an explanation for this behaviour, but that's bullshit. There is also a VERY loud BANG! when switching the unit on/off. This two points are a real NO-GO in 2020.
Above that, the so-called FM isn't FM as J. Chowning understood it.
It's something else. Not uninteresting, but not as expected. Maybe my unit was damaged, but I don't think so.
I am not a big fan of User manuals, but this thing came without _any_ description, not even a Quick.Start-Guide.
But nice look and feel.

Wie ich das Paket zum Lyra-8 erhalten habe, dachte ich mir, wow, was habe ich noch zusätzlich bestellt? Schweres, solides Teil! Haptisch wirklich handfest. Super Gefühl beim "Spielen" ... oder: kann man es überhaupt spielen, oder spielt es einen selbst? Ich kann nicht behaupten, "verstanden" zu haben, was es tut. Tatsächlich: jede kleine Änderung kann zu großen Sound-Änderungen führen. Jedenfalls etwas für den intuitiven Gebrauch.
Das Mod-Delay und der LFO sind jedenfalls bestens geeignet für den externen Audio-Eingang, können auch sonst massiv den Klang der 8-stimmbaren VCO's beeinflussen. Hinter den 4 Mod-Reglern jedenfalls, verbirgt sich jedenfalls "the magic".
Die Bedienung sucht im Audio-Bereich wohl auch seinesgleichen - Stromfluss durch Fingerauflegen ... funktioniert überraschend gut, auch mit den unterschiedlichen Attacks (Fast-Schalter).
Aktuell verwende ich das Lyra-8 zum "Stimmung-Machen" für Experimental- oder Ambient-Trips; manchmal kriegt man auch totales Tape-Feeling zusammen, bzw. auch unerwartete Rhythmik, was ich prinzipiell am spannendsten finde.
Abschließend kann ich vermuten, dass mich das Teil noch über längere Zeit "beschäftigen" wird. Im Sinne des Erfinders: es fühlt sich tatsächlich eher an, als würde man es mit einem biologischen Organismus mit Eigenleben zu tun haben. Bleibt, sofern man prinzipiell einen Zugang dazu findet, sicher lange spannend ... insgesamt: weit mehr drin in der Box als man sich bei "Drone Synthesizer" dem Namen nach vorstellt... was wiederum das Gewicht des Pakets zu erklären scheint ...

Bon, je ne l'ai que depuis une semaine mais je suis déjà conquis. J'adore les beaux objets, bien fabriqués, à l'air robuste, c'est donc un plaisir de jouer avec ce synthé. Boitier en métal, potentiomètres de qualité.
Et puis les sons... on peut passer d'un sound design apocalyptique tout droit venus des ténèbres vers des nappes bien chaudes et pleines de lumière. Je sens que je vais l'emporter partout.
