S-Hoop SH168 16" Drumhoop 8-hole

La mia Yamaha MC Absolute Nouveau montava dei die cast in alluminio, che, in teoria, essendo costosissimi singolarmente, avrebbero dovuto esaltarne la timbrica, ma di fatto non era così. C'era sempre un qualcosa che non andava e l'accordatura non risultava mai soddisfacente. Ho ipotizzato che questi S-Hoop, che hanno la peculiarità di essere un sunto tra i Die-Cast ed i tripla flangia, avrebbero potuto risolvere la situazione, così li ho acquistati. Bene: monto il battente e dico "Woooow! Un altro mondo". Poi effettuo un secondo ordine per tutti i risonanti, arrivano, li monto ed esclamo "E' un'altra batteria, rinata!!". Finalmente la mia Maple Custom suona come dovrebbe, spaventosamente bella; ha un suono tridimensionale, avvolgente, caldo e ben definito. La perfezione, si dice, sia irraggiungibile. Beh, è vero, ma nulla vieta di avvicinarcisi. Grazie Thomann per il servizio di spedizione superlativo nonostante l'emergenza Covid19. Alla prossima!!

Vantaggi funzionali e timbrici da questi cerchi che mi hanno sempre entusiasmato?hanno i pregi e non i difetti delle due principali tipologie di cerchi: tripla flangia e die cast . Hanno, grazie alla loro elevata consistenza, una ottima tenuta dell? accordatura, potenza del ?rim shot? ed inoltre proteggono con la loro flangia pronunciata verso l?interno, il prezioso ?bearing edge?dei fusti.Non da trascurare anche il vantaggio di limitare l?usura delle bacchette, grazie alla rotondità del bordo di impatto. Il giudizio finale è ottimo !

I wanted to try something different than the original three-flanged hoops on my toms and I had heard of these hoops as being a middle ground between the tree-flanged ones and the die-casts. Sonically, they indeed are. The s-hoop made the sound of my floor tom much more controlled. The decay became faster and some of the weird overtones disappeared. Also, I had an impression that the floor tom became much easier to tune and it stayed in tune longer.

I would have gladly kept the s-hoop on my tom if it hadn't been for one issue. Because of the shape of the hoop, I could not get a standard bracket mic mount installed on the rim. It's a serious problem in a gigging situation, where the sound guy might not be able to properly mic up your drum kit. I read somewhere that there are certain mic brackets that can be installed on the s-hoop, but I didn't feel like changing my entire mic setup just to accommodate for the new hoops.

Overall, the s-hoops are great if you're not going to mic your drums or if you're patient enough to find suitable mic mounts.

I've had S-hoops on snare and toms.
It might be the right hoop for certain drums... But in general I have to give it a pass. I changed back to my original hoops on 2 different drum-sets.

On the plus side - they're very comfortable to hit. You get a broader/fatter strike on the drum. There is a sonic difference when you put these on.

But. Microphones don't seem to like them, neither does the mic-clips/fasteners.

Also, if you like to use rimshots on toms, this is not for you. It's less rim (Kah!) - and more "(cloung)".
