Keeley Eccos Delay / Looper

I saw all the videos on youtube before getting this pedal, now it's in my hands. It has all the goods that everyone talks about, but no one, not a single video, is mentioning this big flaw. That is, when you go in looper mode, the delay is AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGED!

I mean, you start in delay mode, with delay disengaged, you jump in looper mode, and the delay gets engaged by itself!!! I mean, what the heck is this useful for?!?!?

The normal behavior, what I'd expected, is that if the delay is on, going on looper keeps it on, if the delay is off going on looper keeps it off, right?!?! When I've found that this was not the case I just thought my pedal was defective.

The manual doesn't clearly tell that, it only writes that "if you want no delay sound in looper mode you have to set to zero the blend know". Well big deal!! This means that in looper mode I couldn't use delay! And also that when in deelay mode the wysiwyg setting would be useless (because with blend set to zero you get no delay sound).
With this behavior the looper is at 10% useful.

Another thing that doesn't work as expected: the wysiwyg setting (the sound of the delay coming from how the knob are set on the pedal, when no preset is active) does only activate the primary functions (the ones that you can directly set without pushing the feedback knob). That is, say that I'm setting the tone all the way up (bright tone), then I switch to preset n.2 that has a dark tone. Now if I go back to the wysiwyg setting I still got the the dark tone from preset n.2, while I should got the brigth tone coming from how I set the tone knob! Not very nice...

PROS:
- good sounds
- lots of tweaks and functions
- looper mode (see below...)

CONS:
- looper mode automatically switches on the delay!!
- wysiwyg setting only recalls primary knob controls
- only tape delay sounds
- bypass and tap tempo leds are close to the switches, it could be hard to see them when you have your foot over and/or at a certain angle of view.

I've been using the Line 6 DL4 for some time and love it, but it's bulky and doesn't fit on a pedalboard very well. Looking for something smaller I came across the Keeley Ecos/Delay. Has similar features (not as many presets, but many more options), being able to save presets and a looper function. I have yet to take full advantage of all the features as it takes some time to learn. The only thing I don't like at this point is that in loop function, to delete something you've recorded you have to hear a few seconds of it. This means that if you make a mistake you're kind of screwed. It's not easy to reset in a live situation. Again, a lot of this may be my inexperience. Overall it's a fantastic pedal.

Keeley baut großartige Effekte und der Eccos ist ein Geniestreich, der allerdings noch reifen muss.

Mit Eccos konnte ich zwei Effekte auf meinem Board ersetzen, somit bin ich mit diesem Produkt sehr zufrieden. Die Delay-Sounds sind von hoher Qualität und und der Looper funktioniert einwandfrei.

Allerdings muss man sagen, dass ich nur mit dem zweiten Pedal zufrieden war, da beim ersten der mittlere Regler (mit Tastenfunktion) bereits nach 2 Tagen viel zu locker war. Also ging das Pedal zurück. Da mich die Delay-Sounds und der Looper überzeugt hatten, habe ich eine Ersatzlieferung angefordert, was bei Thomann vorbildhaft funktioniert. Nun bin ich happy und verkaufe meine alten Delays und meinen alten Looper. So gesehen war die Anschaffung auch nicht sonderlich teuer. Und wer keinen Looper hat, der sollte erkennen, wie gut diese Dinge fürs Üben sind.

Wieso dann nur 3 Sterne bei der Bedienung? Weil die Doppelbelegung schon gelernt werden will und das Pedal mM. zu kompliziert macht. Mir persönlich wäre es lieber, wenn separate Regler für Delay und Looper samt zusätzlichem Fußschalter zur Verfügung stehen würden. Dafür würde ich auch größere Dimensionen des Pedals akzeptieren.

Fazit: geiles Delay, super Looper, etwas komplizierte Handhabe.
