JHS Pedals 3 Series Hall Reverb

Astonishing reverb. It beats the big beasts (Strymon, ... ). It is only hall : not a plate, a spring this and that. The hall goes completely wet. It becomes 100 % endless at max decay. And with a very beautifull tail; defined, little rough, not too much. It can sound as if you are in a rocket that is leaving the earth. Very musical also. It is the coolest hall reverb, but for all, it is a heavy shoegaze machine. It goes perfect with dirt. The modulation stays beautifull alive in the dirt pedal. This is such a good pedal and I don't wanna talk about the price because it is just good. I once bought a Neunaber. For my taste and shoegaze sounds this one is better. The decay goes as long , or even longer than the Neunaber. But the tail sounds much nicer than that cristal Neunaber. This one has only one reverb wich gives the essence, wich makes it very inspiring. In shoegaze you combine reverb with dirt , often before it. Having and a Hall and a Plate and a cathedral and a room etc are not that essential. Often thay sound the same the more you go extreme, especially with much dirt pedals. It also blocks the flow having too much options. If you want to surf rock or so, you better buy another (JHS) reverb. But if you want to go normal but especially ambient : this is the one. Play with it and you won't stop.
The concept as well as the sound of this pedal is really strong. JHS really nailed it. I would love to see also a more colourfull, graphic edition of this pedal. But price would go up probably.

I had checked out a lot of videos on youtube before deciding to go for the JHS hall reverb series 3 pedal. I loved what I saw and heard in all the videos. And the price is great too.

I received mine the other day and went right ahead and connected it to my pedal board. As soon as I turned it on for the first time I noticed a lot of hiss which goes away when I turn the pedal off. First I thought it might be my cheap power supply with this pedal but it hisses the same when I connect the pedal with a 9v adapter straight into a socket. So it's unusable for home recordings because of this.

I really wanted this pedal because it produces awesome reverb sounds but now I'm hesitant to get a replacement and I'm pondering a refund. I do live in Iceland so shipping stuff front and back is not ideal.

Zum ersten Mal musste ich mir unbedingt ein Pedal von JHS kaufen. Ich bin auch den großartigen YouTube-Video von Josh Scott erlegen.
Nun kam die neue Reihe der "3 Series" auf den Markt und das "HALL REVERB" musste es sein. Schon die Videos verschiedener amerikanischer Pedal-Nerds haben mich überzeugt. Die liebevoll verpackte Treteinheit aus dem mittleren Westen der Staaten ist in braunem Krisselpapier in einem schönen braunen Karton verpackt. Dazu ne 4-Jahres-Garantie und n schöner stylischer Aufkleber dazu. Fängt ja schon mal toll an.
Dann der Praxistest: Das weiße Gehäuse ist super stabil. Metall halt. Beim Einschalten leuchtet die Betriebslampe rot. Es gibt dann drei Regler: "Verb" (regelt den Mix aus cleanem Signal und Effektsignal), "Dampen" (regelt quasi den Raum, den der Effekt erzeugt) und "Decay" (regelt die Dauer des Effekts). Gerade letzteres ist der Zugang in ein Ambient-Paradies. Dreht man den Regler ganz nach rechts, so entsteht ein Hall, der fast eine ganze Minute nachklingt. Wirklich sehr mächtig und beeindruckend. Das ist der Moment, wenn aus einem einfach Hall-Reverb ein Wesen aus einer anderen Galaxie. Dann entstehen distopische Welten und man kann dann auch gar nicht aufhören mit dem JHS 3 Series Hall Reverb zu experimentieren.

Fazit:
Auf meinem Pedalboard in meiner poppigen Postrockband ersetzt das Pedal den Boss RV-5, der mir etwas zu glatt gebügelt ist auf Dauer. Ich bin extremst begeistert, was für ein umfassendes Pedal man für den Preis bekommt. Wer kann, sollte sich dieses Pedal in seine Effect chain einbauen. Mich hat es überzeugt und ich bin offen für neue Pedale aus Kansas.
