My second JA series
Dan Wood 04.08.2026
Just received this after only getting a vintage white non aged model a couple of weeks ago so I thought a comparison might be useful to potential buyers.
The ageing is done well enough and it obviously feels very similar to the older JA60OW that I have other than the frets are nowhere near as sharp as they are on the older model, they're not perfect but I wouldn't have expected that in this price bracket anyway. The main difference though are the pickups, the new Isola sound way, way better than the Roswells in the other guitar. I upgraded the pots in the older guitar to 1meg and now it sounds a lot better but I pre-ordered some 500k pots for the new guitar and now I've heard the Isola pickups I don't think I need to fit them (though I probably will just to squeeze everything I can out of the guitar). So overall I have to say that once I've crowned the frets it's going to be an extremely nice instrument, yet another huge win for Harley Benton and Thomman, well done guys.
Edit : I decided to do the pot upgrade to the new 500K versions and there is a noticeable difference in the pickup sound now, nothing crazy but a degree of clarity and bite that suits the guitar perfectly, I will say though that it's not a necessary upgrade, the sound out of the box is just fine. Also I forgot to mention that the tuners on the new relic model are definitely an improvement on the older version in as much as they are that little bit more solid but more importantly the split shafts hole for the string now very much deeper than on the older model and because of that are a huge improvement.
