Really great guitar. As is should be.

The guitar may be at least 200 to 300 euros overpriced compared to a similar Gibson USA standard LP Junior model, but that’s also understandable, since the manufacturer Gibson usually decides, after a few years of availability, to withdraw the model from the standard lineup for several years — even 10 or more.

La Gibson LP Special Double Cut TV Yellow es una guitarra que, en cuanto a sonido y sensaciones, cumple: suena bien, tiene carácter y es muy divertida de tocar. Es ligera, resonante y transmite esa respuesta cruda que uno espera de las P-90.

El problema llega con la construcción y el control de calidad, que dejan mucho que desear. Desde el primer vistazo se nota que el diapasón está mal terminado: se aprecia claramente la unión pegada al mástil, algo que en una guitarra de este precio resulta difícil de justificar. La cejuela presenta defectos evidentes. El acabado TV Yellow está algo apagado, no es un desastre, pero tampoco destaca.

Da la impresión de que la guitarra ha salido de fábrica sin una revisión seria. Y aquí es donde duele más: no tiene nada que ver con las Gibson del pasado. El estándar histórico de la marca no se ve reflejado en esta edición moderna.

En resumen:
Suena bien y es divertida de tocar.
Falla claramente en la construcción y los acabados.
La relación calidad/precio no está justificada.

Mi recomendación: antes que comprar las nuevas ediciones, es mucho más sensato buscar una Gibson de segunda mano, incluso pagando algo similar. Probablemente tendrá mejor construcción, mejores acabados y representará mucho mejor lo que Gibson fue.

Great sound, bad quality control

I ordered 2 copies of this same guitar, both of which I had to send it back. I think LP double cut juniors are one of the best guitars in the Gibson lineup (I much prefer them over the single cut version) and bringing these back to production was a long due. However, the attention to detail on these guitars is non-existent, this is Gibson's quality control at its worst. While most of the issues I experienced were cosmetic (e.g. a deep ridge between binding and neck wood, problem with guitar case etc.), I cannot accept any issues at a 2000 EUR price tag. That amount of money for such a simple instrument (slab body, no contours, P90 pickups etc.) must come with impeccable fit and finish. I could not wrap my head around the price compared to the single cut model. The only explanation is that Gibson looks at this model as a cash cow. One copy I received was on the heavier side and was bottom heavy, the other one (around 3.0 kg) was perfectly balanced.

I suggest buying this only if you can try out the instrument in person. I will definitely find a way to visit the store next time. The sound coming out from these is just heavenly.
