Excellent sound but poor manual

This beast sounds like an oberheim (I have a Sem and a matrix 1000) and is built really nicely. My only problem was with the manual. Its not very well written. I was trying to find how to split the sounds to my midi keyboard and could not find any info. It took 4 hours to realise that I had to change the midi channel of voice 1 and 2 and make it channel 1 for both. This had to be written in bold letters on the manual or maybe pre-configured from the synthtribe app. Too bad! Other than this the synth has a gorgeous sound and for the price is a steal. You just have to search some things on your own.

Unfassbare Preis-/Leistung

16 Oszillatoren für unter 700 EUR sind allein schon eine Hausnummer. Der UB-Xa kommt aber mit einer klanglichen Bandbreite und (vom Original geerbten) Ausdrucksstärke, dass einem die Ohren wackeln. Die Oszillatoren können den einzelnen Stereokanälen zugewiesen werden, was gerade bei Unison Presets einen Unterschied wie Tag und Nacht ausmacht: So fett klingt wenig da draussen - unabhängig vom Preisschild. Über den Split Mode lassen sich per MIDI zwei Patches gleichzeitig über unterschiedliche Kanäle ansprechen - jeweils mit 8 Oszillatoren. Das wird aus der Beschreibung nicht ganz offensichtlich und war für mich eine willkommene Überraschung. Die Patches umfassen klassische 80er Jahre Sounds, Behringer hat aber auch eigene moderne Patches ergänzt - wer mit Synthwave nichts anfangen kann, sollte sich also trotzdem vom Geburtsjahr des Vorbilds nicht abschrecken lassen.

Klar, man kann hier auch ein paar Sachen ankreiden:

- Das Display lässt sich richtig schlecht ablesen, wenn man nicht direkt senkrecht drauf blickt.
- Für den 19" Einbau ist die Strombuchse denkbar schlecht platziert. Entweder ihr habt etwa eine halbe HE über dem Synth frei, oder ihr müsst kreativ werden. Selbst mit 90" Winkeladapter braucht ihr ~1.5cm Platz. Der Markt gibt da nicht viel her und bei 220V sind Bastellösungen durchaus heikel. In Foren werden mit Schnitzwerkzeugen bearbeitete Adapter präsentiert - plant also lieber vorher den zusätzlichen Platz im Rack ein, bevor ihr bestellt.

Gerade mit Blick auf den Preis kann ich das gut verschmerzen. Ich bin sehr zufrieden und kann den UB-Xa auch als Desktop Variante uneingeschränkt empfehlen.

One of my best synths - incredible value and sound

The UB-Xa D delivers incredible sound quality at an unbeatable price. The analog modeling is excellent, with warm, rich tones perfect for electronic music production.
I've found tons of presets that work great for my melodic techno and Afro house tracks. It handles everything from lush pads to punchy bass lines beautifully. The polyphonic capability is fantastic for layering.
The handling takes some getting used to, but once you're familiar with it, the workflow is smooth. Build quality is solid, and the feature set is comprehensive.
For the price, this is an absolute steal. It's become one of my go-to synths in the studio. Definitely recommend!
