One Month with the Arturia MiniFreak: Still Inspiring Every Day

've been using the Arturia MiniFreak for about a month now, and it's easily one of the most inspiring synths I've owned. The sound engine is incredibly versatile, offering everything from warm pads and classic leads to experimental textures and aggressive basses.

The workflow is fast and creative, with plenty of hands-on controls and excellent integration with the included MiniFreak V software. Being able to switch seamlessly between hardware and plugin is a huge advantage when working in a DAW.

Another thing I really appreciate is the large selection of factory presets. They sound great right out of the box and provide a solid starting point for creating your own sounds. Most presets are easy to tweak and customize, making it simple to adapt them to your specific needs.

My only real complaint is the small built-in display. However, this is largely solved by connecting the synth to a computer and using the MiniFreak V editor, which provides a much larger and more comfortable editing experience.

The modulation matrix is probably the one feature that takes the most time to get used to. It's extremely powerful, but there is definitely a learning curve before it starts to feel intuitive.

Overall, the MiniFreak offers an outstanding balance of sound quality, flexibility, and creativity. Despite the small screen and the need to learn the modulation system, it's a synthesizer that constantly inspires new ideas and is easy to recommend.

It's a Minifreak. Just in white

If you already have a dynamic mic and/or you don't care about the colour or the vocoder, get the black version for almost 80 euros less.
Other than that, this is the Minifreak, you probably already know what you are getting. This synth gets better and better with every iteration of the firmware. Even if no more firmwares are coming, it's already amazing. Since firmware 2.0, it can do both freak and 'normal' sounds. Build quality and keybed are top notch. One of the sturdier little synths out there.

Perfekt für den Einstieg

Der Minifreak ist ein Biest.
Er lässt sich durch sein Layout super einfach bedienen. Auch der Klang für den Preis ist unschlagbar und kann mit der Konkurrenz mithalten. Kronjuwel ist die Modmatrix.
Ich würde den Minifreak weiterempfehlen, würde aber zur Version ohne Mikro raten, da die Firmware bei allen gleich ist. Man spart sich dann auch noch einiges.
Bis jetzt hat mich noch kein Arturiaprodukt enttäuscht

Ist ein gutes Teil

Habe es auf dem Schreibtisch, über Computertastatur und Maus liegen. So ist es auch kein Problem für mich, das Display abzulesen. Die Tastatur ist gar nicht schlecht! An die Touch-Taster kann ich mich gewöhnen.

Den Grundklang der Oszillatoren würde ich als 'hochwertiges Plastik' beschreiben. Er ist meinem Urteil nach dem von Pigments sehr ähnlich. Klar, aber auch dünn. Als fehle es an tiefen Mitten.

Was ich meine, lässt sich gut nachvollziehen am vorletzten "Kapitel" vom YT-Video "Sounddesign with the Arturia Minifreak" von Martin Stürtzer. Spielt man einen Patch 1-2 Oktaven tiefer, bleibt da nicht so viel von übrig, wie man's vllt erwarten würde.

Dafür sind die Oszillatoren frei von Aliasing und man hat eine breite Palette an Algorithmen zur Auswahl. Zusätzlich zu einer Menge an Modulations-Möglichkeiten. Der Minifreak macht ziemlich Spaß und man kommt schnell zu brauchbaren Sounds!

Sehr schlecht finde ich die Entscheidung von Arturia, dass Firmware-Updates und Sample-Austausch für Linux-User nicht möglich sind. Beim Microfreak lief das noch über Sysex.

Werde ihn behalten. Danke an Thomann, dass ich ihn austesten durfte! :)
