The Vemuram Shanks ODS-1 is a beautifully voiced, dynamic and highly musical overdrive. I tested it with a Les Paul, Stratocaster and Gibson 335, and it performed extremely well with all three.

With the Les Paul, it is particularly impressive: powerful, rich and full of character. With the Stratocaster, I initially wanted a little more saturation, but increasing the internal SAT trimmer made a huge difference, giving me exactly the stronger drive I was looking for.

What I really appreciate is the usable and progressive gain range. Compared with the Las Lunas, the Shanks offers much finer control over the amount of saturation.

The pedal has no real weaknesses. If I had to find one small thing, I would have liked just a little more gain available at the top end. Other than that, it has its own character, punch and excellent dynamics. A very versatile and inspiring overdrive that I definitely want to keep exploring.

A Nobels ODR-1 (I have the vintage one) on steroids, it sounds great!
