UDO Audio Super Gemini White

This U.D.O. Super Gemini is an incredibly sounding instrument. The voice architecture with its binaural or full stereo path with phasing control points for LFO 1 is a true new approach in years of been there done that synths.

The command panel is a joy to use, and very easy to apprehend. Some regret the absence of screen. Well, it's a very conscious choice of the design team at U.D.O. to 'force' us to go with our ears and not numbers and menus. I appreciate this approach a lot, as constraints force you to innovate, think different, take notes maybe too.

The build quality is amazing, and I appreciate immensely that this instrument is entirely designed and built in Europe. It has a cost, but I'm proud to endorse this approach that maintain production and work here and limit environmental impact at the same time. U.D.O. has also a qualitative and ecological approach to their instruments (See the offer of a polyphonic aftertouch replacement keyboard for the Super 6 instead of a 'new' instrument just for that).

Nice support and steady firmware update it seems.

Erster Eindruck: Sofort loslegen ohne Handbuch
Aus etlichen Produktvorstellungen in Print oder als Video habe ich schon erwartet, dass dieser Synth zum Loslegen einlädt, ohne sich lange ins Handbuch einlesen zu müssen. Die ersten großartigen Sounds zu erstellen ganz ohne das Handbuch überhaupt geöffnet zu haben, habe ich aber so nicht erwartet.

Klangqualität: Wahnsinnig guter Sound
Egal, woran ich schraube oder schiebe, ständig gelange ich zum nächsten Sweetspot und werde zum Spielen eingeladen. Die Mod-Matrix habe ich bisher komplett ignoriert und bin erstaunt, wie viele doch komplexe Sounds ich schon entwickeln konnte, die auch alle absolut hochwertig aus den Boxen zu hören sind.

UI: Jede Funktion ist ohne Menü erreichbar
Für mich der Hauptgrund des Kaufs war der des nicht notwendigen Displays und dass ich alle Funktionen per Schalter, Poti o.ä. erreichen kann. In der Praxis ist es genau wie erwartet, dass ich durchs fehlende Menu-Diving Sounds direkt entwickle und den ein oder anderen kreativen Gedanken direkt in die Praxis umsetzen kann. Zum Speichern der Presets wäre es schön gewesen, noch einen Namen über ein Display einzuspeichern. Ich kann es aber durchaus verschmerzen, da ich die Brot und Butter-Patches in der Regel ohnehin jedes Mal neu einstellen möchte.

Fazit: Für mich der beste Synthesizer in Hardware-Form
Um meine Schwärmerei etwas einzuordnen: Ich nutze den Synth zum Jammen, in Synthwave-Produktionen und im Rock-Bereich. Dafür ist der Synth aus meiner Sicht der Ideale Player, bei dem ich wirklich auf nichts verzichten muss und der einfach immer in den Gesamtkontext passt. Bisher war es jedes Mal so, dass wenn ich „nur mal schnell“ ein paar Minuten spielen will, ich ewig dran saß und gespielt habe. Das ist mir zuletzt in der Anfangszeit passiert, als ich mit dem Musikmachen angefangen habe.
