Recently purchased a 15" ring control ring for my DW collectors floor Tom, which has tendency when tuned low to rumble a bit too long, my immediate reaction when opening the packaging was how poor the manufacturing quality of this device is, the foam insert ring fell apart, due to poor glueing, and when trying to fit the thing on a perfect round Tom Tom it had to be pushed over with force and held down until head and hoop etc forced it to stay on!! It didn't even come close to being a circle, or at least a 15" circle.

I'm summary and operation , it dampens ok, but in my option ruins the feel and playability of the batter head. Think I will remove it and put back my Evans sound ring and try to tune my problems away, REMO should take a long look at the superior EVANS products.

Eigentlich wollte ich dem EMAD und ähnlichen (teuren) Fellen ein Schnippchen schlagen: Eine abnehmbare Dämpfung, die nicht mit dem verschlissenen Fell weggeworfen wird, in Kombination mit dem günstigsten und gleichzeitig offensten Remo-Bass Drum-Fell - so gedachte ich, das beste aus zwei Extremen zu machen.
Vom Preis her wäre das einfach nur der Hammer gewesen: Jedes Mal nur 26 Euro für das Fell und die immer wieder verwendbare Dämpfung bleibt auf dem Kessel! Leider haute mein Vorhaben klanglich überhaupt nicht hin; der Remo-Ring würgte die Bass Drum dermaßen ab und machte den Fellklang so mumpfig, dass ich ihn nach insgesamt zwei Minuten Testspielen in drei verschiedenen Stimmungen (ausnahmsweise ohne Gehörschutz, versteht sich) wieder abmontierte und zurückschickte.

Hinzu kommt noch, dass - wie auch in einigen anderen Rezensionen trefflich beschrieben - die Verarbeitung bzw. Materialqualität ziemlich schlecht ist: Der Ring ist ein Stück billiges Plastik mit einer bröckeligen Schaumstoff-Einlage, die eine nicht allzu lange Lebensdauer erwarten lässt.

Fazit: Für meine 20" tiefe Bass Drum eignete sich der Control Ring überhaupt nicht, bei kürzeren Kesseln mag das anders sein, weil sie von sich aus definierter klingen; der Preis stimmt bei dieser Materialqualität aber gar nicht. Nächstes Mal wieder Powerstroke 3 oder EMAD - der Sound ist den Aufpreis wert!

15" control ring

Ik heb de ring op m'n staande tom zitten onder een remo coated en demp goed, een E ring is dan overbodig. kan er lekker hart op drummen en nagenoeg geen nagalm, meer een dof geluid en daar waar ik naar op zoek.

Bei schwierigen Locations die Rettung....

So also die Remo Ring Control Ringe habe ich bisher schon ein paar mal live verwendent, in Locations mit ziemlich viel eigen Ressonanz. Natürlich wird der Sound dadurch nicht gerade schöner, er wird nur eben kürzer und fetter.

Aber gerade diese Tatsache werden Tontechniker danken - wenn das ganze Set über PA geschickt wird. Zur Zeit verwende ich den 14" Control Ring auf der Resoseite meiner Tom. Da durch klingt sie zwar extrem kurz und auch von der Bühne aus nicht wirklich mächtig. Aber über PA klingt sie fast schon so mächtig wie eine Bassdrum :D

Sollte zumindest jeder Drummer im Notfalltäschchen dabei haben, bevor Gaffa den Job übernimmt.
