Quilter Aviator Cub 112 Combo

Da qualche tempo ormai avevo in mente di comprare un amplificatore piccolo e leggero ma potente, non valvolare, sia per back-up che per piccoli live in cui anche un 15 watt valvolare è troppo, o per viaggiare leggeri nei tour in furgone che mi capita spesso di fare in giro per l'Italia senza avere troppi problemi, insomma una valida alternativa agli amati valvolari per diverse situazioni.
Beh, posso dire di averla assolutamente trovata in questo piccolo, magnifico gioiellino di casa Quilter, che conoscevo già m non avevo ancora avuto l'occasione di provare un loro prodotto per bene.
Suono e feeling sotto le dita pazzeschi, in una settimana l'ho già usato live più volte e posso dire di non aver praticamente mai rimpianto il mio Tone King Imperial, ed è tutto dire... il canale blackface finora è il mio preferito ma sono bellissimi tutti e tre. Io suono prettamente blues, country, rock'n'roll, e questo ampli è perfetto per tutto, ha volume da vendere ma suona bene anche a volumi molto bassi, con pedali overdrive, fuzz, tutto! Ottimo per la pratica e anche per collegare fino a tre strumenti considerando che i tre ingressi sono indipendenti.
Sono contentissimo per ora e non potevo fare scelta migliore, quest'ampli vince su tutti i fronti: leggero, portatile, piccolo, potente e suona da paura, inoltre ha un Cab Sim sia nel line out che nell'headphones out per poter praticare in silenzio, registrare, andare diretti nella PA. Piccolo trick: se collegate un qualsiasi device audio nel return del loop effetti con un cavo mono, potete anche mettere delle basi o della musica per esercitarvi, in cuffia e non :)
Non amo molto i modeler e preferisco l'analogico in genere, anche per praticità e semplicità, se la pensate come me questo (o qualsiasi altro Quilter) è perfetto! A questo prezzo poi!

This is the perfect combo for anyone seeking authentic Fender tones. The Quilter Cub has four massive plus points.
1. Wonderful tones
2. Little or no maintenance
3. Lightweight
4. Relative cost.
This amp is packed full of decent Fender type tones that you would expect from some of the most famous Fender amps of the Tweed, Blackface and Blonde eras. It’s a loud 50 watts and extremely gig worthy…… and it will cope with most live situations and any over enthusiastic drummers ! It takes any pedals extremely well too……if that is your thing.
With no valves to worry about, it’s a plug in and play amp. You will never have to worry about blown valves or burnt out capacitors and the like.
It’s as light as a feather…well not quite, but it’s a lot less than half the weight of most average 1x12 valve combs…. Brilliant for carrying to gigs.
At this price, you’re getting really close to boutique valve amp tone for cheap solid state money. ……. But there is nothing cheap about the tones.
A fantastic amp. I’ve owned some of the very best hand wired valve amps, and this little CUB can compare well with any of them.

After taking it out on the road and putting it through its paces in real-world gigging situations, I can confidently say it’s one of the best solid-state solutions on the market for jazz players, even if it cuts it just a bit close on raw volume in certain settings.

• Portability & Build: Carrying this to a gig is an absolute dream. It weighs next to nothing, the build quality is rock-solid, and it saves your back during load-ins.
• The Catch (Volume & Headroom): My only real critique is the overall volume ceiling. For small-to-medium rooms, duo gigs, or playing with a sensitive drummer, it is absolutely perfect. However, when the room gets loud or you're pushing against a heavy-handed rhythm section, the 50 watts can feel like it's just on the edge of its limit. It is almost enough for heavy setups, but I occasionally find myself wishing for just a tiny bit more clean headroom to spare before the power section begins to compress.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a highly portable, incredibly warm, and articulate amplifier for jazz gigs, the Aviator Cub 112 is a phenomenal investment. It delivers boutique-level tone at a fraction of the weight and cost. It is an easy 4.8/5 stars—if Quilter ever gives this exact preamp design just a touch more power for high-volume ensembles, it would be the undisputed perfect amplifier.

I have been looking for an alternative to valve technology for the past few years.
I'm now a solo performer so a mic'ed amp on stage is not practical.
Having tried IR technology in various forms which I wasn't satisfied with I tried a Koch Studiotone. It has a good cab sim and internal load box. I had very good results but I was still keen to find something that didn't use valves.
I purchased a Quilter Aviator Cub to try, which had a returns option.
It's a keeper, I'm very impressed. It works exceptionally well with Boss Gt100 and the Cab Sim is, to my ears as good through my PA as it is through the amp's speaker.
