Presonus Quantum HD2

Everything from the mic pres, to the AD/DA, to the guitar ins, to the headphone amp is great. I have yet to try the Reamping outs. I assume that it is as good as everything else in this unit. Also there is the possibility to add 16 additional I/O with ADAT expansion. Please notice that this is not SPDIF Toslink, just works with ADAT connections. A small disappointment since I have some external DACs that I would have liked to have the option to connect. Still I can connect them with the Spdif included in the interface as well. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the drivers. I'm opening projects I was able to open with my previous RME digiface (using Ferrofish converters A16 MK ii) and I get stuttering. Even putting the buffer to the maximum doesn't help that much. In the worst case scenario I can still connect it via ADAT to my Digiface and use the amazing RME drivers with this Presonus. I find that I use plugins less with this unit since the D/A is of very high quality (maybe I was overusing a little too much vst's in my projects anyways). Also nice that the unit looks and feels great. The biggest surprises were the instrument in and the mic pres. Both sound amazing with anything I tested them with. Have some patience with the universal control software, just as with Totalmix it takes some time to learn. Highly recommended even compared to units that cost 2 or 3 times its price.

Da mein aktuelles Interface (Quantum 2626 ) leider nicht mehr meinen Ansprüchen gerecht war , suchte ich ein Audio Interface, welches sehr kurze Latenzen vorweist, ein direktes Monitoring unterstützt und ein Loopback Kanal zur Aufzeichnung z.B. in OBS bereitstellt.
Ausserdem sollten per ADAT noch weitere 16 IN/OUT nutzbar bleiben.

So bin ich auf das Quantum HD2 gestoßen.
Kompakt und es entspricht all meinen Anforderungen.

In Studio One 6 messe ich 2-5 ms Latenzen im Low-Latency-Mode, kann aber auch auf das direkt Monitoring umschalten, wenn der Artist bei der Aufnahme nicht mit den Latenzen klar kommt.
Im Treiber werden auch gleich 2 Stereo Loopback Kanäle angeboten, auf welche natürlich auch unterschiedlichen Quellen gelegt werden können.
Somit lässt sich auch mit OBS aufzeichnen.
Der Support bei Presonus ist übrigens sehr zufriedenstellend, weiter so!
Alles in Allem bin ich sehr zufrieden und muss sagen, dieses Interface ist das beste, welches ich bisher nutzen oder testen durfte.

Ich glaube ich habe mit dem Quantum HD2 ein durchaus potentes Interface gekauft, konnte es aber noch nicht ausgiebig testen. Vorab aber möchte ich einen kurzen Tip für die Installation des zum Gerät gehörenden Programms "Universal Control" geben. Beim Mac OS ist es notwendig, die so genannten Treibererweiterungen zu aktivieren. Hierzu geht man zu den "Systemeinstellungen", dann zu "Anmeldeobjekte und Erweiterungen", dann zu den "Treibererweiterungen" und schließlich klickt man noch auf das kleine "i" rechts davon.

I have waited some months before writing this review. I will only describe what I personally think of the HD 2 because details and instructions can be found on the internet.

Out of the box the Presonus Quantum HD 2 is basically a 2 in 4 out audio interface but has lots of routing and expansion possibilities. All in and out features are high quality and this audio interface realy sounds good. Also the single headphone output sounds very good and will be loud enough for any situation. The display is very nice, clear and informative. Universal Control provides a mixer with all routing you can wish for. It is well laid out and easy to use. Presets can be stored as Scenes. The "One Knob Approach" works very good since there are only 2 physicall inputs.

I am a guitarist and absolutely love the 2 instrument inputs. They realy sounds better than other audio interfaces I have owned. There are also 2 additional instrument outputs which can be connected to guitar amps or FX pedals for Reamping. I tried them and it worked perfectly.

For me the drivers and low latency are important. Taken in account that this is a USB device the latency is very good. With a buffer size of 128 at 48Khz the round trip latency is about 7 ms. With a buffer size of 64 it is about 5 ms. Both buffer sizes will work very good while monitoring a guitar through an amp sim. Also I have to mention that these drivers are absolutely rock solid for me. Not a single glitch in 4 months of use.

Presonus support was very kind answering some pre sales questions. I found them very friendly and responsive. The choice was between the ES 4 (which is more the desktop version) and the HD 2. Since I never use more than 2 inputs simultaneously I chose the HD 2 and do not regret that choice. I prefer the layout of the HD 2 over the ES 4.

I think this audio interface is a thing of beauty and art in all aspects and I can only highly recommend it.
