An incredible Stingray re-interpretation!

So: I ordered this bass because I have the need for a more aggressive and active tone bass. But I did not want to spend a lot for a Ray34 let alone the Ernie Ball. Well: honestly I am in love with this bass. I cannot find any real flaw, literally. Out of the box I only lowered the strings, for a more comfortable action, then fine tuned the octave and voilà: 100% Stingray territory. And all of this for an extremely convenient amount of money. All "pros." But you want a "con" right? Two minimal things. 1) the output socket could be better arranged: thru the edge of the oval you can see the hole 2) there is zero indication about the two batteries polarity. That is (looking at the compartment fully open) both batteries with + up. But the bass is phenomenal. And really beautiful, btw! 🙂

I play a J bass and was looking for an an active MM type of sound without breaking the bank. This is a great bass forget the “for the money” qualifier. Very happy played great out of the box. Thomann service excellent as always.

A fantastic bass - especially for the price

Decided to pull the trigger on a stingray style bass, and I'm so glad I went for the Z3. The 3 band EQ powered by 18V gives you loads of tone shaping options, and the push/pull bypass gives me peace of mind that I'll never be caught short during a gig (the bass sounds great in passive too, but I always use it in active). I'd say the general tone is quite clean and modern, a bit less 'woody' than the Sterling basses I've heard. Perfect for me.

The neck isn't exactly narrow, but I wouldn't say it was uncomfortably wide either, it is quite 'shallow' so not at all like a baseball bat! In combination with the rolled fretboard edges it's a very very comfortable neck to play.

I've heard some negative things online about the quality of tuners on the bass, but to me they are absolutely fine, and I won't be replacing them. The lower horn is short, but I've not had any issues with that - it's never slipped off my leg while playing.

My only issue is that the bass arrived with quite a bit of fret sprout and some dings on the fretboard, this is why I can't give a perfect score for quality. Thomann quickly rectified the issue, and the one they re-sent is an absolute dream. It's light, feels good, looks good, and sounds good. If you're in the market for a stingray style bass I would absolutely recommend this. Honestly if someone told me this bass was twice the price it actually is I would have belived them.

Sounds better than my USA Stingray

This is a really great bass. Sire has impressed me yet again. Although the tuners weren't great, I got in touch with Thomann and they suggested Schaller tuners. So I bought them, put them on,...and BOOM! This is one of the best basses I have ever owned. The neck feels amazing, and the tone is incredible.
If I had spent 4 times the price for this bass, I would still be happy.
Grab one at this price while you can.
