Gretsch Brian Setzer G6120T-BSNSH BK

C'est ma 1ère Gretsch fabriquée au Japon, je jouais jusque là avec ma 5422T qui est aussi une excellente guitare. Avec cette pelle, c'est un autre niveau (d'où le prix). Le manche en V est vraiment très agréable, un peu moins facile d'accéder aux aigus, mais pour le rockab, ce n'est pas forcément nécessaire d'aller faire un bend en case 20. La qualité est irréprochable. J'ai fait 5,6 concerts avec, le son est vraiment là, on se prend très vite pour Brian. Je reste en position neutre sur le sélecteur de tone la plupart du temps. Pas de Larsen même avec une grosse fuzz devant. Le seul inconvénient avec cette guitare c'est que le noir est très salissant mais elle est trop belle, j'assume. Il y a même les potards d'origine de fourni pour ceux qui n'aiment pas les dès.
Après coup, j'ai quand même changer le sillet du bas pour un roll, c'est encore mieux.

Setup was not impressive - however it seems to be close to Dan Erlewine's measurements on Setzer's own guitars.
String height at 12:th fret was: high E 1,7mm., low E was 2,0mm., relief @ 8:th fret was 0,27mm.
Pickups were VERY low, almost flush with the pickup rings.
The nut was a bit high and needed a bit of adjustment/filing.

Having to do a setup is not a big thing though, you should ALWAYS give your new guitar a setup anyway due to climate variations and the fact that wood is a living material.

The TVJones pickups have a little more output and twang to them than my older Gretsches, with clear but not shrill high end.

It has a 9,5 - 12" compound radius neck = slightly rounder in the lower end of the neck to Gretsch 12" standard closer to the body - very nice IMO, at least for those of us who also use the thumb on the fretboard.

Locking tuners are a nice addition which makes changing string a lot quicker.

It feels a bit lighter than my 2001 6120T, probably due to the bracing and lack of centerblock.

Factory strings are probably Daddario EXL110's.

In the hardcase you also get:
Schaller straplocks, not the latest version which has "Lock wheels"(available separately) instead of a locking nut, a nice extra (using them will raise the guitar about 6 cm, i.e. you might need a longer strap or adjust the one you have).

Plastic washer if you want to raise the tremolo bar a little.

Extra nickel knobs if you don't like the dice knobs.

Tool for the trussrod.

Pros: It's VERY nice guitar that has the enhancements I've done or thought about for my older 6120TG.
It's BLACK!

Cons: Apart from being on the fence about the Dice knobs I can't think of any (IF you like Gretsches).
Maybe the price, you get a lot of guitar for less money these days but I have no regrets - I LOVE this guitar!

Diese 6120 Brian Setzer Nashville ist unglaublich gut in allen Belangen: Sound, Aussehen, Verarbeitung, Bespielbarkeit. Zum Vergleich habe ich eine 58er-Original 6120 und eine 2006 6120 BSSLVO. Die Bespielbarkeit ist traumhaft leicht, bis in die allerhöchsten Lagen klingen die Töne. Die Saitenlage ist top eingestellt von den Thomanns, nur die Pickups habe ich näher an die Saiten gedreht und die Polepieces individuell an die Saiten angepasst (so wie es T.V.Jones empfiehlt). Diese BS Signature-Pickups sind das Beste, was ich jemals gehört habe, auch aus dem Hause Jones, dessen PUs ich schon vor 20-25 Jahren in meine Gretsches eingebaut habe. Sie haben Biss/Dampf/Arsch (untere Mitten), aber nichts mulmt, alles bleibt auch (an)gezerrt definiert. Ich spiele Rockabilly, Country, Rock´n´Roll, aber soundmäßig kann die Gitarre auch deutlich härter. Feedback kommt bei meinen Lautstärken nur gewollt (Gitarre vor den Amp halten) und auch das klingt mega und steht.
Der schwarze Lack ist fehlerlos und wunderschön anzusehen und anzufassen. Der "Mud-Switch" ist gut funktional (a la Money for nothing oder für abgehangene Jazz/Blues-Sounds). Strap-Locks und G-Brand-Knöpfe sind dabei, falls die Würfel nicht gefallen. Kauf und Lieferung sind bei Thomann Champions-League, Ihr habt mir eine große Freude mit diesem Traum-Instrument gemacht - diese Gretsch ist jeden einzelnen Cent wert!
