The W&C Violet Blue Caprid is a fantastic, high-quality fuzz pedal, both in feel and in sound. It works exceptionally well across many styles thanks to its less scooped voicing and more distortion-like fuzz character. In some ways, it sits in a similar territory to a Rat, offering a gritty, distortion/fuzz hybrid that’s incredibly usable. It’s excellent for indie/alternative rock rhythm, but still retains that smooth, violin-like sustain that made the OG Caprid (and the original Ram’s Head) famous. Compared to the original Caprid, this version adds more distortion, making it noticeably more versatile.
The enclosure itself is heavy and extremely sturdy, ready for both studio use and life on the road. It feels like a pedal that’s built to last for many decades.
Because of the overall quality, I didn’t hesitate to purchase another big-box W&C pedal shortly after.
The only real downside is the price, but I guess you get what you pay for.
I’d absolutely recommend this pedal to anyone looking for a top-tier fuzz. I’m a firm believer in buying the best rather wasting money and settling for something (or many things) that’s merely close enough to those original boxes of joy.
